Do you know the French musician M? We have blogged about him before.
Also known as Mathieu Chedid, the grand son of French poet and writer Andrée Chedid and French musician Louis Chedid, M has been making his own melodies and albums for more than 15 years.
Despite producing his own albums and being a great live entertainer, M is also known for having written several albums for Vanessa Paradis and working on film music (Les Triplettes de Belleville, Ne le dis à personne by Guillaume Canet, A Monster in Paris, to name but a few).
His talent has been rewarded several times at the Victoires de la musique (French music awards).
Recently, I have been listening to one of M's first albums: Je dis aime featuring some of his most famous songs:
That's when I have also discovered that M had reinterpretated Close to me The Cure hit.
You can listen to the M version of Close to me here :
The original lyrics:
I've waited hours for this,
I've made myself so sick.
I wish I'd stayed asleep today,
I never thought this day would end.
I never thought tonight could ever be
This close to me
Just try to see in the dark,
Just try to make it work,
To feel the fear before you're here.
I make the shapes come much too close,
I pull my eyes out,
Hold my breath,
And wait until I shake
But if I had your faith,
Then I could make it safe and clean.
If only I was sure,
That my head on the door was a dream.
I've waited hours for this,
I've made myself so sick,
I wish I'd stayed asleep today.
I never thought this day would end,
I never thought tonight could ever be
This close to me
But if I had your face,
I could make it safe and clean.
If only I was sure,
That my head on the door,
Was a dream.
What do you think of his interpretation?
Do you know other re interpretations like this?
This blogpost has a few sixties English/French covers...
Happy listening!
